Раздражает действительно. Но худо-бедно заменяется хорошим кофе.

Все это очень и очень субъективно.
Прочитав ЖЖ Ластаны первая мысль - авторы первый раз "заграницей" в AU оказались. Такие же мысли как у наших соотечественников, которые в 90-е годы приехали в US, UK и т.д.
Судя по написанному - очень похоже на NY (только меньше негров) и Сингапур (малость меньше цивилизации).

in Australia people regularly get away with the kinds of freedoms others would be horrified at.

Too Over Populated
Almost everyone lives near the coast where they are forced to be in close proximity to the beaches.

Reasons not to live in Australia

There are a number of reasons why it is a good idea not to live in Australia if you don't have to. It really is a dreadful place to live, and should be left to the poor unfortunates who are forced to live there.

Isolation
First of all, it is a good idea not to live in Australia if you feel the need to be close to the diversity of places like Europe or Asia, or if you want to be close to the US, Canada or South America. The fact is that Australia isn't really close to anywhere except New Zealand, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. And a few pristine islands here and there.

Being in Australia means being isolated from the hotbeds of human civilisation, and it also means a very long plane trip if you want to go to any of the major European or American cities.

Of course, being isolated means you are also away from the trouble spots, and all the over population, overcrowding, pollution, stress, wacko people and all that sort of thing, but if you don't like isolation, then this is a good reason not to live in Australia.

Too Hot
Australia gets hot in most places in the summer (which goes from around November to February in most places, and from November to October in others). In some regions it gets so hot it is extremely uncomfortable, and you can't do anything much except swim in the pool, hang out at the beach, or sit around the barbecue sipping beer.

Summer is a real pain in the neck because you have to wear practically nothing all the time, and there is no opportunity to rug up in warm clothes, coats and snugly scarves and mitts.

In the Mediterranean climates it never rains in summer, so you never get that clean, freshly-washed feeling. In tropical and sub-tropical climates, the rain simply dries up straight away and you don't even get to feel wet.

If you love the cold weather and dressing up in lots of layers, being too hot is a good reason not to live in Australia.

Uncultured
Australians are by and large an uncultured lot of yobbos who know more about cricket and their silly football codes than they do about art, fine music and literature. If you are forced to live in Australia and you wish to retain some culture, you have no choice but to choose the ABC, and be one of the cultured minority who attend concerts, theatre, opera, ballet and other highbrow entertainment. It can be tough being in the cultured minority, but it does give you a curious sense of superiority and, well, smugness.

If you prefer to live among the congenitally smug and superior, then this is a good reason not to live in Australia.

Too Much Freedom
Americans imagine they live in the land of the free, and that they have freedom of speech. However, in Australia people regularly get away with the kinds of freedoms others would be horrified at. There really should be a limit, as too much freedom can be confronting to the faint hearted. This is another reason not to live in Australia.

Too Over Populated
Australia is mostly uninhabitable desert, with almost no rainfall. Almost everyone lives near the coast where they are forced to be in close proximity to the beaches. There are far too many people already.

This is an excellent reason not to live in Australia, and not to add to the already stretched resources. Please stay where you are, as there are excellent reasons not to live in Australia. Besides, we want to keep it for ourselves.
