Description Job Overview
============
This position is responsible to research systems, applications, and network devices for vulnerabilities and malicious code (threat content), attack techniques, and write detection signatures for the same in support of eTrust security products. Content is for all eTrust products that have a continual content flow including anti-virus, vulnerability management, intrusion detection, policy compliance, and anti-spam.
Key Responsibilities
====================
* Monitor public/private sources of information for vulnerabilities and/or malicious code.
* Correlate threat content to industry peers.
* Disassemble and analyze of malicious code/exploits.
* Design system detection and clean procedures and/or scripts to mitigate malware or vulnerability risk.
* Test and validate threat content through lab testing.
* Assist development teams to create new threat mitigation measures.
* Provide detailed documentation for threat content descriptions and mitigation strategies.
* Provide backend support to level 1 and level 2 support teams.
* Monitor progress and quality of Research Engineers' work.
* Assure constant professional development of Research Engineers.
* Maintain internal and external network of relationships within the field.
Position-Specific Decision-Making Authority

* Generally works without consulting their manager.
* Independent decisions are made daily.
* * Reprioritize and manage their issue workload without consulting their manager.
* Consult with the developer to determine the best course of action to correct the vulnerability.
* Guided by departmental and company-wide goals as they relate to customer issue closure rates. The manager will intervene if/when necessary.
* No significant budgetary or other financial accountability.
* Does not supervise (hire, evaluate, and/or terminate) other employees.

* Handle moderately complex problems that arise in everyday work, and escalates more complex problems.
* Prioritize work to make best use of resources.
Business Travel

Business travel of approximately 5 or less percent yearly is expected for this position.
Position-Specific Education, Experience and Certifications

Preferred Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
Work Experience
Typically 4 to 6 years relevant experience or equivalent.
Specific Skills and Certifications
Ability to de-compile program executables and analyze abnormalities. Working knowledge of x86 assembler, BIOS, and DOS interrupts and different file formats. Working knowledge of trade tools and utilities (disassemblers, debuggers, compilers). Strong knowledge of networking, traffic analysis and packet decomposition. Experience with scripting, Internet protocols and vulnerability techniques. Working knowledge of Windows/Linux/Unix operating systems.Proven ability to meet/exceed deadlines. Ability to succeed in a team based and/or autonomous environment. Demonstrated understanding of the product development life cycle. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Senior Research position requires someone who is very highly self motivated and can perform extensive research on highly technical issues. Security experience with some of the following is preferred: Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, XP, 2003 and/or Unix, transport protocols (TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI), wireless, Ethernet, WAN switching technologies, firewalls, intrusion detection, PKI, routers, switches, etc
