On 1 January 2010, the Department will be amending the financial visa requirements for Student visa holders to increase the living costs from $12 000 per year to $18 000 per year for students. Living costs for family members will also increase. Students must also be able to evidence that claimed funds are genuinely available to the them while in Australia.

For those who applied before the 1st January the changes will not be used.
