PM - Shake up for Australia's student visas 22/09/2011

The Federal Government's announced that it will loosen visa requirements for international students.


Starting next year, students who want to study at tertiary level will face less stringent visa requirements.

For example, those who come from countries considered as high risk, because there's a possibility the students will overstay their visas, will not need to prove financial backing.



Regardless of nationality, university students do a bachelor or masters degrees at high quality Australian public universities, they will be not required to produce ridiculous sums of funds, such as $150,000 held for six months in cash in assets, which is what the current regulations for an Indian or Chinese student wanting to go to the University of New South Wales would need.



The reforms also allow university students to work in Australia for a period of time, after finishing their degree.

But students of private institutions will not benefit from this change.

Does anyone know whether recent work experience requirement is waived for 485 temporary visa holders when they are applying to permanent visa, even if they completed their degree more than 6 months ago?
